Description
The Meatcutter Leather Apron splits its two tones horizontally: oxblood upper bib, jet black lower body, a clean seam between them. The neck-loop strap keeps the shoulders completely free, and both lower pockets are wide enough for the full spread of knives and tools a busy butcher carries through a shift. It is a working apron that brings a little character to the block without making a production of it.
Oxblood and jet black full-grain leather: both are the same dense, tight-grained material, just in very different tones. The oxblood upper bib has a richness that reads well under butcher shop lighting, and it develops a deeper, more complex surface over months of use and conditioning. The jet black lower body stays dark and forgiving between cleans, showing surface moisture less than any lighter tone would. Both panels wipe down quickly and age at the same structural rate.

Storage
Two wide open pockets sit side by side on the jet black lower panel at waist height. Both are deep enough for a boning knife and a breaking knife standing upright together, with room for a sharpening steel or a cleaver handle alongside. Hands in, tools out: no snaps to fumble during active cutting. The clean oxblood bib above stays unobstructed through all the overhead reaching and counter-level work that fills a butcher’s shift.
Straps and fit
The neck-loop strap keeps both shoulders completely free, which matters for butchers who do a lot of overhead work, breaking large primals, or moving between stations that require unrestricted arm movement. The waist ties pull the apron body flat against the body. Made for the US market in sizes Small through 2XL.
Coverage and safety
Chest-to-mid-thigh two-tone full-grain leather covers the torso and upper legs from blood, fat drip, and incidental blade contact through an active cutting shift. Both the oxblood and jet black panels are the same dense full-grain leather with the same protective properties. Leather is not cut-proof or puncture-proof. Cut-resistant gloves and safe knife handling are essential every shift, regardless of apron. Keep your blades sharp and your technique sound.
Care and maintenance
Wipe both the oxblood bib and the black lower panel with a damp cloth at the end of each shift. Use a neutral conditioner on both tones at the same intervals so they age evenly in structure. The oxblood will show patina more visibly over time; the jet black panel stays deep. Do not machine wash or soak. Store hung or flat away from direct heat and sustained sunlight.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Meatcutter cut-proof?
No. Full-grain leather in both the oxblood and black panels provides useful surface protection but is not cut-proof or puncture-proof. Always use cut-resistant gloves and proper knife technique at the block.
What is the difference between the two lower pockets?
Both are open and the same depth. There is no functional difference between them: they are two wide side-by-side open pockets for staging knives, a steel, and larger tools during a shift.
What sizes are available?
Small, Medium, Large, XL, and 2XL. The neck strap adjusts for length and the waist ties accommodate different body widths within each size.
