Description
Six individual tool slots. A zipper-close bib pocket. A rich mahogany leather that looks like it means business. The Moltenbound Leather Forge Apron was designed for the smith who stages their tools deliberately and wants everything exactly where they left it when the heat is on. It is the most storage-dense apron in the Leathron blacksmith line, and every slot and compartment earns its place.
Mahogany full-grain leather sits in the warmer end of the brown spectrum: richer and deeper than cognac, with a surface that develops a handsome dark patina through conditioning and daily use. The dense grain handles spark contact and scale abrasion the same way every full-grain leather in this line does: without complaint and without visible degradation from a single session’s worth of forge work. It gets better the more you use it.

Storage
The zipper chest pocket is wide enough for a layout sheet, a pack of chalk sticks, or the small tools you reach for most. The green zipper pull is easy to grab with gloved hands and keeps the pocket shut through all the bending and reaching that forge work involves. Below the bib, a wide horizontal band carries six individual vertical tool slots, each sized for a punch, scriber, drift, or chisel to stand upright and separate. A pen slot sits at the right edge for a marker or layout tool. This is the layout you want when you are moving between five different tools in a single heat and do not have time to dig.
Straps and fit
The neck-loop strap adjusts for length and the waist ties pull the apron body flat. With six loaded tool slots the apron carries real weight, so the waist tie fit matters: snug it down so the tool band sits at a comfortable reach rather than pulling at the neck. Made for the US market in sizes Small through 2XL.
Coverage and safety
Chest-to-mid-thigh coverage in mahogany full-grain leather protects the front of the body through the full range of forge work: hammer swings, quench cycles, stock handling, and time spent close to the fire. Full-grain leather is spark and heat resistant, and the wide tool band across the midsection adds a double leather layer at the zone that sees the most spark and scale exposure. No leather apron is fireproof. Use the Moltenbound alongside a face shield, heat-resistant gloves, and flame-resistant base layers. Together, that kit gives you complete coverage at the forge.
Care and maintenance
Clear the tool slots after each session before debris packs in. Wipe the leather with a dry cloth and condition regularly: the mahogany tone deepens richly with conditioning, moving toward a dark chocolate brown over months of use. Do not machine wash or submerge. The green zipper pull can be wiped clean; keep the zipper track clear of metal grit to keep it running smoothly. Store hung straight or flat, away from direct heat.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Moltenbound fireproof?
No. No leather apron is fireproof, regardless of how much leather is in it. The Moltenbound is spark and heat resistant throughout. Always wear it with full PPE: face shield, heat-resistant gloves, and flame-resistant clothing underneath.
What is the full pocket and slot count?
One large zipper-close chest pocket on the bib, plus six individual vertical tool slots in a wide mid-section band, plus one pen slot at the right edge of that band. No lower skirt pockets on this model: the storage is concentrated in the bib and mid-section where you reach most.
What sizes does it come in?
Small, Medium, Large, XL, and 2XL. The neck strap adjusts for length and the waist ties fit a range of body widths within each size.
